Short Deck (6+)

HOW TO PLAY 6+ (SHORT DECK) POKER: RULES, HAND RANKINGS AND STRATEGY

6+ Hold’em, also known as Short Deck Hold’em in the poker community, has quickly become a poplar format of Texas Hold’em, offering a new online poker and live poker game experience.

If you are fully familiar with the rules of Texas Hold’em then learning the 6+ (Short Deck) poker rules will not take you long! Meaning you can enjoy the exciting 6+ poker format at KKPoker!

POKER RULES

6+ plays much like Texas Hold’em. Each player is dealt two hole cards, but rather than the deck containing 52 cards, it only contains 36.

Why? Because in 6+ Hold’em all cards from the value of 2-5 are removed from the deck, meaning 6 is the lowest value card.

Due to the removal of cards in 6+ Hold’em, there are also some interesting and fun changes to the traditional Texas Hold’em poker rankings.

ANTE

Each player is required to place an Ante, while the player in the Dealer position places two Antes.

No Small Blind or Big Blind is used.

Players act in a clockwise manner starting from the first player on the left of the Dealer.

6+ at KKPoker is a No-Limit game.

HAND RANKINGS

As you can see, in 6+ Hold’em poker rules, a Flush is ranked higher than a Full House.

Also, an Ace is a replacement for 5 in the lowest straight: A6789

TABLE POSITIONS

Due to the use of an ANTE and the removal of the Small Blind and Big Blind, the player to the immediate left of the Dealer will act first in all betting rounds, including Pre-flop.

EXAMPLE

All players place a mandatory Ante bet. The Dealer then places a second mandatory Ante bet.

All players receive 2 hole cards.

The first action will be made by the player to the immediate left of the Dealer. This player will have the option to call for the Ante amount, raise or fold.

Let’s say the first player to act calls for the Ante amount of $1. All players fold before Dealer, who already has placed a mandatory Ante of $1, has the option to check or raise. Let’s say they opt to check.

The first 3 community cards known as the Flop are revealed: Ah Qh Qs

The first player to act bets $2 and the Dealer calls.

The Jc is revealed on the Turn, and Player 1 bets $4. The Dealer player calls.

The 10h is revealed on the River, and Player 1 bets $8. The Dealer player calls, and they go to showdown.

Player 1 reveals Jh 9h for a Flush. The Dealer has Qc 10s for a Full House.

Because a Flush is ranked higher than a Full House in 6+ poker, Player 1 wins the pot.
